We grade all of our bucktails in house from a grade 1 (best, longest hair) to a Grade 3 (shortest hair, small tails, incomplete tails).
We are picky about our bucktails, and know a lot of you are too. We have adapted a grading process to grade our buctails in house from a 1 to 3 based on many attributes. We judge the fullness of tails, the length of the fibers, the "spring" of the fibers, and the size of the tail.
All bucktails have a purpose, grade 1's are great for tying decievers, musky flies, and the bigger streamers that we fish on the white. Grade 2's are still great for decievers and some smaller streamers while Grade 3's would be perfect for tying clousers or anything where a straighter fiber is desired.
