The original idea for hairwing patterns came about in the 1920’s in several locations simultaneously. In the late 20’s Lee Wulff specifically looked to upgrade a ROYAL COACHMAN FAN WING with hair wings and tail. Right up there with the ADAMS, the ROYAL WULFF is one of the most well-known dry flies of all time. Considered “strawberries and cream” by trout, don’t be afraid to feed them desert any time of day.
